ANDREW Surman says Saints retain the belief they have had all along that they will escape the relegation battle they find themselves in this season.
Surman, who again figured at left back in the 1-1 draw at Charlton, is as disappointed as anybody that a season where so much was expected has been so below par.
But he feels the belief remains in the squad and after four points from the last two games that they are heading in the right direction.
He said: "Week in week out the players give 100 per cent.
"We know what's at stake.
"We all wanted the play-offs but we have to get out of this relegation battle.
"The belief has been there all season.
"It has been a bit tight recently and that can effect your confidence.
"The last two games we've got four points and a lot of people from the outside wouldn't have expected that and that has done our confidence the world of good."
He added: "We said from five matches left that we have five cup finals and there's three left now and we want three points from each game.
