CHESHIRE'S Sue Dye claimed the English Senior Women's Close Amateur Championship at Stoneham Golf Club this afternoon.
Dye beat Sandiway Golf Club's Barbara Laird 3&2 in the final at the Southampton course.
"It's very special," said Dye. "I just focused on playing shot by shot, hole by hole.
"All week I've just tried to play each round better than the one before."
The match brought to an end an enthralling four days of golf at Stoneham.
The highlight of the matches was Sherwood Forest Golf Club's Janet Collingham's remarkable fightback against Hockley's Chris Quinn in the quarter finals on Thursday.
Hampshire's Quinn, who was the leading qualifier in the strokeplay rounds, was five up after seven holes, but some relentless golf from her opponent eventually saw her claim victory at the last.
