SAINTS duo Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong helped their country to a comfortable win over Ukraine in the Nations League, with the Scots top of Group B1 after a 3-0 victory at Hampden.

Attackers Adams and Armstrong toiled up front without reward for their efforts, recording four shots apiece without converting.

The hosts left it late to find their goals, with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn opening scores after 70 minutes.

Shortly after both Adams and Armstrong were replaced at the same time, coming off after 76 minutes for Newcastle winger Ryan Fraser and QPR striker Lyndon Dykes.

The swap paid off almost immediately, as four minutes later Fraser and Dykes combined from a corner, before the pair linked up again to add a third and further gloss to the scoreline.

Victory for the Scots not only puts them into first place, pushing them closer to potential promotion, but also to securing a playoff spot for the EUROs in 2024.

They are now two points clear of Ukraine after four matches played, meaning that if they avoid defeat in their final two games, they are guaranteed promotion to the top-tier of the Nations League.

Scotland are next in action on Saturday, when they host the Republic of Ireland, with a potential match-up between Saints teammates, with Gavin Bazunu likely to start in goal for the Emerald Isle.

The Scots’ international window comes to a close when they visit Poland next Tuesday to face Ukraine in the return fixture.
