SAINTS defender Mohammed Salisu finally made his long awaited debut for his nation, coming off the bench in the Black Stars’ friendly defeat to Brazil.

The 23-year-old centre-back played the second-half of the 3-0 loss in Le Havre, with Tottenham striker Richarlison bagging a first-half brace following Marquinhos’ opener.

Ghana recorded a clean sheet in the second period, helping Salisu stake a claim for a spot on the plane for the World Cup later this year.

Although he has previously accepted a call up to the national side, Salisu reportedly asked to be left out of numerous squads in order to settle at Southampton.

After establishing himself as a first-choice at St Mary’s last term, the defender has now accepted the call to represent his country of birth.

The Black Stars continue their preparations for Qatar with a friendly against Nicaragua in Spain on Tuesday.

Ghana’s World Cup is arguably one of the toughest at the tournament, with the Ghanaians facing Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

Elsewhere, Moussa Djenepo was in action for Mali as they were defeated 1-0 by Zambia in a friendly. He played 78 minutes before being replaced by Ferencváros striker Adama Traore.

Mali and Djenepo face the exact same opponents on Monday in another friendly.

Summer signing Armel Bella-Kotchap was an unused substitute as Germany fell to a shock defeat to Hungary.

The centre back could make his debut for Die Mannschaft in what is now a dead rubber at Wembley on Monday.
