SAINTS have added another young goalkeeper to the ranks, adding 18-year-old Jak Stewart as a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Everton.
Formerly with Manchester City up until under-15 level, Stewart arrives on the south coast on a year-deal until the summer of 2023.
He will work primarily with the under-18s and Dave Horseman's B team at Staplewood.
Speaking after making the switch, Stewart commented: “I think this move is a good fit for both of us really.
“All the lads have been really welcoming. I know a couple of them from playing with them at (Manchester) City.
“The coaching staff that I’m working with now show belief and that just allows you to go to a different level.
“The ultimate goal is to try and play first-team. But there’s a process to it and I want to be ready for it.”
Academy goalkeeper coach Steve Grinham added: “Jak is a good addition for both the Under-18s and the B team.
“He’s someone who will come in and help support both programmes. We know from having him in sessions that he’s good on the ball, got a good range of pass.
“We’ve got a programme in place now that will try and help Jak get to his full potential and be as good as he can be.”
