SAINTS duo Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong achieved promotion to the Nations League A tier on Tuesday evening.

The Scots recorded a 0-0 draw in Poland to ensure they finished above nearest challengers Ukraine, their opponents on the night.

Striker Adams started the clash up top, whilst Stuart Armstrong was brought on to help see out the result in the 72nd minute. Adams was replaced seven minutes later for Lyndon Dykes, with Scotland doing enough to secure the required point.

Moi Elyounoussi played just shy of an hour as Norway missed out on promotion from the B tier of the Nations League, with the Nordic country downed 2-0 at home by Serbia, who went on to win the league.

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring shortly before the break, before Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic doubled the lead shortly after the restart, effectively sealing the result nine minutes into the second half.

Gavin Bazunu’s Ireland survived a late scare at home to Armenia, eventually winning 3-2 in a chaotic game.

Defender John Egan got his side off to a strong start when he netted after 18 minutes, before former Saints academy graduate Michael Obafemi doubled the Emerald Isle’s advantage early on in the second period.

The away side only had four shots all game, and they made the most of them inside a flurry of goals, restoring parity seventeen minutes before time.

Artak Dashyan scored to halve the deficit, before Eduard Spertsyan found an equaliser two minutes later.

Dashyan would be involved in the drama at the end of the game. The attacker opted to prevent Darren O’Shea’s shot from reaching the back of the net by clearly using his hand, leading to a VAR check for a penalty.

When the spot-kick was awarded, Hovhannes Hambardzumyan was dismissed for his protestations, with Dashyan following him down the tunnel.

Robbie Brady stepped up to convert the injury-time penalty, and spare his countries’ blushes.

At youth level, Will Smallbone tasted defeat with Ireland. Currently on loan at Stoke, the Saints academy graduate played 105 minutes of the second leg with Israel, which was eventually decided by penalties.

Elsewhere, Samuel Edozie added another goal for England’s under-20 side.

First-half strikes from Daniel Jebbison and Aaron Ramsey sent the Young Lions on their way to victory over Australia, with winger Edozie added further gloss to the final scoreline in the second period.

Juan Larios played 82 minutes as Spain’s under-19s recorded a 0-0 draw away in Belgium. The Spaniards remain top of their group after two games, following victory over Albania at the start of the international window.
