RALPH Hasenhuttl rejected the suggestion he is under pressure to perform to keep his Saints job, despite “odds for betting companies”.
The Austrian insisted the most pressure he is under comes not from the board or Sport Republic, but from himself to do a good job with his team.
The 55-year-old has been in charge at St Mary’s since December 2018 and has kept the club in the Premier League despite difficult financial constraints under previous owner Gao Jisheng.
Following back-to-back 1-0 defeats in the Midlands, Hasenhuttl’s odds to be the next Premier League manager to leave were slashed from 16/1 to 7/4 over the international break.
Hasenhuttl, speaking ahead of his side’s home clash versus Everton in the Premier League at the weekend, was asked if he feels under pressure from above to keep his job.
“Despite to create any odds for betting companies, I say no, I’m not under pressure,” the boss insisted. “Not more than any day when I work with my team.
“I always say the biggest pressure on me is the pressure I put on myself. To do a good job every day, and deliver the best work, is the pressure I put on myself every day; it is enough.
He added: “If you want to do a good job, the most pressure should come from yourself.”
Saints have picked up seven points from their opening seven matches, including wins over Leicester City and Chelsea.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was sacked soon after that 2-1 defeat at St Mary’s, while Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers remains favourite to be the next manager to leave his post.
