RALPH Hasenhuttl indicated youngster Samuel Edozie is likely to continue as a substitute for now, despite calls for him to be awarded his first start.

The 19-year-old winger has appeared from the bench in each of Saints’ last two Premier League matches since making a permanent deadline day move from Manchester City.

Edozie is a direct, skilful and pacey forward who has been in good form for England’s youth teams of late, scoring on his under-20 debut versus Chile last week.

Adam Armstrong has been starting on the left for Hasenhuttl in this new 4-2-3-1 shape, and the Austrian indicated that could continue with Edozie still taking his first senior steps.

"So far, he has had some good moments in his minutes in our team,” Hasenhuttl said, speaking about the English youngster ahead of the Premier League meeting with Everton.

“Starting in the Premier League, you need to be physically and mentally ready. I don't want to say he is not ready for this so far.

“But I think it is easier for him at the moment to come in as a sub and have an impact with the qualities he has. And I am sure he will get more (minutes) tomorrow as well."
