JIMMY Jay Morgan fired another brace as Saints B laid down a marker in victory at Everton, in their opening Premier League Cup match.
The 16-year-old – who scored twice at Portsmouth last month – netted his double in the second-half to complete the comeback on Merseyside.
Isaac Price had opened for the Toffees, who then had two players, including the goalscorer, sent off by the referee in the closing stages.
Dom Ballard captained Dave Horseman’s side as they faced Everton for the first time since a 9-0 aggregate defeat in May 2021, before Premier League 2 relegation.
Saints now compete in the division below but have given themselves a strong chance of cup progression over the young Toffees, with two more group games to come.
Horseman’s charges must visit Colchester and Birmingham City before three home legs in December. Premier League 2 is currently experiencing a World Cup break.
Saints had the better of the opening chances at Everton, seeing at least three go by the wayside before Price struck a loose ball.
Morgan smashed Lewis Payne’s set-up into the roof of the net to equalise and danced through two defenders before finishing for his second brace.
The England youth international also scored twice last time out at Sunderland, and was named on the bench for the first-team's EFL Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday last week.
