SAINTS skipper Rosie Parnell believes “two silly mistakes” cost her side as they fell out of the Women’s FA Cup at the first hurdle.
Bristol City triumphed 2-0 to move through to round four, where they will host Oxford United.
A goal in each half from Shania Hayles and Emily Syme saw the Robins progress.
Reflecting on the contest, Parnell told Saints’ website: “It is a tough result. We normally go on really good FA Cup runs.
“It’s probably the first once since I’ve been at the club that we’ve gone out in the first round, but can’t fault the work-rate to be honest, especially in the second half.
“Two silly mistakes for goals, but we’ll learn from it.”
Hayles broke the deadlock on 23 minutes, giving the hosts a slender half-time lead.
Asked what the message was among the squad at the break, Parnell said: “Get at them really. Let’s go out and be aggressive, which we did.
“We did cause them some problems but unfortunately we just didn’t have the final goal in us.”
She added: “There’s players that probably haven’t had that many minutes, so it was good to get them on the pitch. Everyone did really well.”
Discussing her centre-back partner for the day, teenager Sam Corrie, Parnell added: “Sam’s trained with us quite a few times and I’ve been impressed every time I’ve seen her.
“I think credit to her, she stepped up and she was aggressive and she had a really good game next to me.”
