LUTON Town manager Rob Edwards admitted there is “always that possibility” that defender James Bree makes a Saints move this January.
The 25-year-old right-back is a target for the St Mary’s side as short-term cover and back-up following a minor setback in Tino Livramento’s recovery.
Bree, formerly of Aston Villa, played under current Saints boss Nathan Jones with the Hatters among over 140 appearances for the Championship club.
Edwards, who took over from Jones when he was given the Saints job in November, admitted he has not heard of interest yet but expressed that it could happen.
“There’s nothing that I know of at the moment, but like I said before, nothing would surprise me,” Edwards said, speaking to Luton Today.
“He’s a really good player and obviously he’ll be out of contract in the summer. I don’t know, I’m not aware of anything at the moment.”
He added: “With his situation, there’s always that possibility but what we’ll always do is try and make sure we do what’s right for the football club, and there’s an individual within that, a human being in that as well.”
Saints have already completed two signings this window, with Mislav Orsic, 30, and Charly Alcaraz, 20, both making their debuts as substitutes in the last week.
