SAINTS manager Ruben Selles revealed he drew inspiration from a Norwegian side for a mid-match huddle in times of need and credited his players for a 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Captain James Ward-Prowse pulled his players together for a last-ditch regroup when Spurs went two goals ahead during the second half at St Mary’s.

After Pedro Porro, Harry Kane and Ivan Perisic goals saw Spurs two ahead after Che Adams’s earlier equaliser, Theo Walcott and an added-time Ward-Prowse penalty rescued a point.

Selles, who has managed eight points in his first six games as boss, revealed Norwegian outfit Bodo Glimt as an inspiration for the huddle.

“It’s a thing we have been talking about. We got the example from Bodo Glimt in Norway,” the Spaniard explained.

“They do the huddle every time they score or concede, just to talk. "When you see teams concede, everybody’s falling apart, going from one side to the other.

“We don’t want that. We want that togetherness. When you concede a goal. Something happens. You get together. Somebody says something and we learn.”

Reflecting on the draw, which still keeps survival hopes alive for Saints despite remaining bottom of the Premier League, Selles said: “I think we didn’t deserve to be 3-1 down and we put some good performances on the pitch.

“The game can go in a different direction but you can see the togetherness from the captain to the team.

“Together, with the crowd, we made an impact in the game and believed we could score. We made the third one and it was absolutely a pleasure.”

Saints scored three goals in a Premier League game for the first time this campaign and it was the first time under Selles they had netted more than once. Previously, the side scored just two goals in his five games.

“I have always kept a low profile on this, I have said we are working on things and you saw today the first goal came from the training ground with how we want to attack the spaces against Tottenham,” Selles added.

“We did it and the goal Che (Adams) scores is one that has been there before but we, unfortunately, didn’t get it. We are putting things together but we expect more.”
