SAINTS must fare significantly better than they did in reverse fixtures during the first half of the Premier League season if they are to survive relegation.

The St Mary’s side have just 10 matches left of the 2022-23 league campaign and two points to make up on clubs in safety, with Saints still sitting at the bottom of the division.

The Daily Echo has analysed the club’s performance in the reverse fixtures versus the teams they must now face in order to rescue their 11-year top-flight stay.

Saints earned just five points in the respective 10 matches during the first half of the season, tasting defeat versus seven of the teams they must play again.

Daily Echo:

Across the 10 fixtures, they suffered a goal difference of -13 with 20 goals put past number one Gavin Bazunu by the Premier League rivals.

Here is Ruben Selles’s remaining run-in and how the club performed in the reverse fixtures, managed by either Ralph Hasenhuttl or Nathan Jones.

West Ham United (a) – Sunday, April 2.

Previous result: Saints 1-1 West Ham.

Manchester City (h) – Saturday, April 8.

Crystal Palace (h) – Saturday, April 15.

Previous result: Palace 1-0 Saints.

Arsenal (a) – Friday, April 21.

AFC Bournemouth (h) – Thursday, April 27.

Previous result: Bournemouth 0-1 Saints.

Newcastle United (a) – Sunday, April 30.

Previous result: Saints 1-4 Newcastle.

Nottingham Forest (a) – Saturday, May 6.

Fulham (h) – Saturday, May 13.

Brighton & Hove Albion (a) – Saturday, May 20.

Previous result: Saints 1-3 Brighton.

Liverpool (h) – Sunday, May 28.

Previous result: Liverpool 3-1 Saints.

Jones lost seven of his eight Premier League matches after succeeding Hasenhuttl in November, only beating Everton at Goodison Park.

Bournemouth are the only team Saints have beaten this season and will play again, with two wins coming versus both Chelsea and Leicester City propping up their points total.

If Saints were to pick up five points again from the 10 fixtures, it would leave them with just 28 by the end of the season. That total would currently have them sitting 12th in the Premier League.

However, two teams (Bournemouth and West Ham) would require four points, Leicester would require three, three teams (Forest, Everton and Leeds) would require two points and two teams (Wolves and Palace) would require just one point to match the Saints total.
