AFC Totton continued their march towards the Southern League Division One South title with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over second-from-bottom Cinderford Town.
In front of a bumper crowd of 1,298 in glorious weather, the home side threatened from the off. Totton duly took the lead in the 15th minute, Scott Rendell with a thumping header from a beautiful Jack Masterton cross.
The Stags surged forward in search of a second, and were granted their opportunity when Rendell positioned himself well under a poor clearance, and goalkeeper Ellis Parker bundled him over in pursuit of the ball. Rendell duly dispatched the resulting spot-kick to double the hosts’ advantage.
Cinderford improved in the second half, but never truly tested home ‘keeper Lewis Noice, who extended his clean sheet streak in goal. Totton were happy to control possession and keep the ball to take the sting out of any Foresters’ attack.
The home side eventually made their dominance count with a third goal. Matty Burrows won a free-kick halfway through the away half, and Masterton stepped up to tease a dangerous delivery into the box that Mitchell-Carlton Speechley-Price finished for his first goal in Totton blue, sealing the three points.
Both sides are back in action on Bank Holiday Monday, with Totton travelling to Lymington Town, while Cinderford host Evesham United.
Goalscorers: Scott Rendell (15, 40 [p]), Mitchell-Carlton Speechley-Price (81)
