SAINTS supporters have reacted to the unveiling of the club's brand new retro inspired home kits ahead of their 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Produced by Danish sportswear manufacturer Hummel, the shirt draws inspiration from Southampton’s 1987-89 home shirt – a shirt worn by the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Alan Shearer and Franny Benali.

As a part of the club’s ‘For the badge’ campaign, each of the club's kits this season will celebrate a different element of the club's crest, with the home jersey focusing on the Hampshire rose, which features on the shirt over a thousand times in the diagonal pattern.

The black and yellow goalkeeper’s kit has been inspired by the halo element of the club crest and the original stained glass windows of St Mary’s Church.

The retro design has split fans with many enjoying the nod to one of Hummel’s most iconic templates, while other fans are displeased with a ‘lack of creativity.’

Saints fan Michael Haskell said: “Loved it the first time and still love it now.”

Steve Clark added: "Love the kit, just hope we get some amazing players like those who used to wear the original!”

Fellow supporter John Newton was less convinced by the 80s-inspired home shirt, saying: “I know it’s a throwback to a retro kit but really not sure about this.”

For the first time in club history, a limited-run Saints Women’s replica shirts will be available to purchase from the club shop.

The move comes after a historic first season in the FA Women’s Championship for Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side, as they saw a match attendance increase of 355 per cent compared to the previous campaign.

The decision to sell the women’s team shirts has been met with a positive reaction from supporters on social media.

Twitter user @tenaciousCeeEl was pleased by the announcement, saying: “About time too!!

"Maybe one day you’ll be able to select females from the personalisation drop-down.”

Fans will be able to purchase shirts in-store and online as well as via the club’s new click-and-collect service with the same-day collection.

The club store will be open from 10am until 8pm each day between June 19-23, to accommodate those wanting to pick up the new shirt after work.
