TOTTON have announced the signing of former Eastleigh and Bournemouth forward Jake Scrimshaw.

Under boss Jimmy Ball, son of World Cup winner Alan, the Stags secured promotion to the Southern Premier South last season.

And they have added striker Scrimshaw to their ranks.

The 22-year-old impressed as a youngster coming through the ranks at Cherries, signing a professional contract in the summer of 2019.

However, the Isle of Wight-born talent never featured for the first team.

He spent time out on loan at Poole Town, Eastleigh, Walsall, Newport County and Scunthorpe United before departing Cherries permanently in 2022.

Spells in the National League followed with Yeovil Town and Eastleigh last season, where he struggled to make an impact.

Scrimshaw, who recently won the golden boot at the 2023 Island Games, has now linked up with Totton, returning for the Southern League for the first time since his prolific spell with Poole in the 2018-19 campaign.

“I have bounced around from club to club a little over the last year or so, but I’m confident this is the right move for me at this point in my career, to help me get back on track,” Scrimshaw said.

“I know the Southern League Premier Division well and I’m sure I can produce at this level.

“I’m aware of what AFC Totton achieved under Jimmy Ball last season and of his reputation throughout the game for bringing on young players.

“Charlie Davis and Josh Carmichael are both friends of mine from time spent together at Poole Town and Bournemouth, and they have told me nothing but good things about the way this club is run and the vibe between the management and the players, so I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to prove what I can do and to help the team achieve success this season.”
