NEWCASTLE United have agreed a deal to sign Saints defender Tino Livramento for a fee approaching £40million.
The 20 year old former Chelsea product has remained a transfer target for the Champions League Magpies since an initial bid was rejected last month.
Media reports at the time incorrectly detailed that an agreement for the signature of Livramento was close but director of football Jason Wilcox has stood firm for value.
There will be a portion lost to the Chelsea sell-on but a significant profit on the £5m paid. Good example of the business Southampton want to continue to do, albeit losing a top player. #SaintsFC

Livramento, who cost Saints only around £5million to acquire from Cobham in 2021, missed most of the last year following an ACL injury in April 2022.
The youngster returned to feature in the final Premier League games of the season and has featured prominently under new boss Russell Martin in pre-season.
Livramento, however, is unlikely to feature in the opening game of the Championship campaign as Newcastle finalise his move to St James’ Park.
The £40million fee is comprised of a guaranteed £35million with a further £5million in add-ons. Livramento made 34 appearances for Saints.
Speaking about possible transfer exits in July, Wilcox said: "We're aware that we have asset value and players other clubs want, players want to go and play in the Premier League.
“Let’s not criticise them for that – I was relegated with Blackburn and I didn’t want to play in the Championship. I made the decision to stay and try and captain them back to the Premier League.
"There will always be players who aren’t willing to do that but I don’t think any player at Staplewood is happy we’ve been relegated, they don’t want to play in the Championship.
“If we get the right offer – we will consider it. Consider is an important word because we don’t have to sell, we’ve got a lot of asset value and it’s about how we rebuild the squad.”
Livramento spoke exclusively to the Daily Echo after he made his injury return in an under-21s fixture at Staplewood Campus.
He said: "I had the injury against Brighton but another setback in December and as soon as that happened I said no matter what, I’m going to go into everything 100 per cent – I’ve got no time to waste.
“If I get injured again, it will be because I’ve given everything to the game and not because I was not going into a tackle or being a bit lazy or something like that.
“I wanted to make sure when I got the opportunity I would be giving 100 per cent whatever happens."
Livramento was given his Saints debut on the opening day of the 2021-22 Premier League season, displacing Kyle Walker-Peters from the starting squad under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
