PREMIER League giants Chelsea have joined the transfer tussle for midfielder Romeo Lavia with a new bid, as first reported by the Daily Echo.

The exact figures of the bid are unknown but it is understood to be closest to the club’s valuation of Lavia, 19, so far.

Liverpool have already had bids rejected this summer with the latest of those turned down reportedly approaching £45million.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been pursuing the Belgian international after the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in their midfield.

Chelsea made a verbal proposal to purchase Lavia for £50million just a few weeks after the youngster signed from Manchester City last summer but this was swiftly rejected.

More movements regarding Lavia are expected within the coming days as Liverpool could return with an improved proposal. Other clubs retain an interest in the prospect.

Lavia has made 34 appearances for Saints but was an unused substitute in the club’s 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the Championship season.
