SAINTS captain Jack Stephens is hoping his side can “put aside” mistakes made versus Norwich City on his return to Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

Stephens was signed from the Pilgrims to Southampton’s academy as a teenager in April 2011 for a fee of just £150,000.

The 29 year old has made 153 appearances for Saints and is now officially the skipper having been named as James Ward-Prowse’s successor by manager Russell Martin.

Stephens is now set to lead his team out at Home Park, where he made four appearances, as well as an additional two on the road, before leaving Plymouth well over a decade ago.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Stephens previewed the test, saying: “Firstly, it’s going to be an exciting game. Plymouth is a really tough place to go and get a result.

“They’ve had a good start to the season and it’s going to be really tough for us but we are hopeful and confident that we can put a few of those mistakes from last Saturday against Norwich aside.

“We need to continue the way we are playing in possession and at the top end of the pitch. If we do, we are confident that we can go and get a good result on the weekend.”

Plymouth Argyle are unbeaten in three so far this season with a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town and 0-0 draw with Watford in the Championship, as well as EFL Cup progression past Leyton Orient.

Saints also have a win and a draw in the league, after Stephens captained Saints to a 4-4 draw with Norwich City at St Mary’s last time out.
