EVERTON are reportedly in talks to sign Scotland international Saints striker Che Adams for a fee of £12million.
Adams, 27, scored 25 Premier League goals in four seasons for Saints before their relegation in May and has two in two Championship matches this term.
Everton have a limited budget but are looking to add a forward, as well as already confirmed additions of Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison and Youssef Chermiti.
Everton were also interested in signing team-mate Kamaldeen Sulemana but the move looks unlikely as they are finding it difficult to agree terms with Saints.
Meanwhile, Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto remains of interest.Everton have so reportedly had two bids rejected for the 19-year-old.
Adams has started as a substitute for new manager Russell Martin in the first two Championship fixtures, scoring from the bench in both.
He is likely to lead the line at Home Park this weekend when Saints visit newly promoted Plymouth.
However, as reported by BBC Sport and others, Adams could be making a move back to the Premier League in a £12million deal.
Adams has just one year left on his Saints contract with the club ready to move on big targets should they need to replace another of their key players.
Martin is likely to give an update on Adams’ future as he faces the press on Friday morning – with Saints yet to confirm they have accepted or rejected the bid.
