SAINTS manager Russell Martin confirmed the club have rejected bids for Che Adams and Nathan Tella, following his side’s 2-1 victory at Plymouth Argyle.

The in-demand duo both got on the scoresheet at Home Park, including Scotland international Adams bagging his third in three in added time to seal the win.

Tella has been the subject of transfer interest from German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen, while Adams has come under a bid from Premier League Everton.

With less than two weeks until the window shuts, Martin still does not know exactly how his squad is going to look – with more departures likely, if not guaranteed.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Martin said: “We have three or four players, or however many it is, who are really unsure where their future lies and we’re having to contend with that – which isn’t easy.

“I don’t think there’s any update. We’ve rejected bids and that’s where it’s at. If the clubs want to continue talking then talk as much as you want, until they get a bid in it doesn’t really change the landscape.

“We have players with noise all over the pitch, Kyle Walker-Peters has been linked to every club in Europe and we had a really low bid in for Jan Bednarek which we rejected a long while ago, and nothing has come from that.”

The former Norwich City man added: “Even the way he has dealt with it and come back, hopefully, the lads are really feeling it and enjoying it here but we’ll see.

“All I know is we will have a stronger squad in two weeks than we had today and how that looks I have not got a clue. I don’t waste any time sweating over that because I’ve got no control over it.

“We have control over who we want to bring in, what we need and coaching the players – that’s why we give everyone everything we’ve got because we don’t know who’s going to be here and who isn’t.”

On further quizzing, Martin continued: “I wasn’t good enough to have that noise around me but they are. They dealt with it incredibly well.

“We rejected a bid for Che and we will see what happens now. He’s not kicking the door down to leave and neither is Nathan, I think they are both enjoying themselves. If it ends up happening because it’s good for us and it’s good for them, then we will have to replace them.

“They are playing like they want to be here, they train like they do and they act like they do, that’s all I can ask for.

“We have had different bids for Nathan and none of them have come close I don’t think. He’s an amazing boy and I’d be gutted to lose him, but if we do we will have to replace him.

“The window should be shut now two weeks into the season or whatever it is. It is what it is, we will deal with it and I can’t wait until it’s over.”
