SAINTS are reportedly interested in Swansea City striker Joel Piroe and Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer as they hunt a potential Che Adams replacement.
Scottish international Adams is the subject of ongoing transfer negotiations with Premier League strugglers Everton after scoring three goals in three Championship games.
If the 27 year old departs the club, manager Russell Martin will expect a replacement – and it could come in the form of one of his old players.
The Daily Mail report that Saints retain an interest in Swansea star Joel Piroe, 24, who is into the final year of his contract in South Wales.
Piroe scored 41 Championship goals in two seasons under Martin with his former boss a known fan of the Dutchman.
Unconfirmed rumours have suggested Piroe is set to sign a new deal at Swansea but this could also include a release clause which Saints could still activate.
The report also details interest in Archer, an Aston Villa 21 year old who is signed up to a long-term deal at Villa Park but could be available for a move.
Archer scored 11 goals in 20 Championship matches on loan at Middlesbrough during the second half of last season, after netting four in 14 for Villa.
The Riverside was prolific England under-21 international Archer’s second loan spell in the Championship, after playing 20 times at Preston North-End in the 2021-22 campaign.
Saints are likely to face competition on moves for forwards from Leeds United, the report also details.
