SAINTS are actively pursuing a move for Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, according to recent reports.
The Scottish international is a known target for Southampton as they look to reinforce their forward line before the transfer deadline.
Stewart has scored 40 goals in 80 appearances for the Black Cats - including 10 from 13 games during an injury-hit 2022-23 Championship campaign.
Multiple outlets have reported that Saints have made bids for the 27 year old, but have been unable to strike a deal so far.
Speaking on Wednesday ahead of Saints away trip to Sunderland, Martin said: “I really like Ross.
"I tried to sign him at MK Dons. I really liked him then and he’s done brilliantly since he signed for Sunderland.
“He’s been out for a while, so I guess we are going to be linked with so many players – some of them are so far away.
“I don’t think some of them have even been discussed.
"I get given some names, some are close to the mark and I’m sure we will end up bringing some of them in. It shows that agents are doing their jobs.
“Ross is one of a number of players that we have been liked with. We will just have to wait and see.”
