A TOTAL of sixteen players currently at Saints have been called up to their national sides ahead of the September international break.

Those players are divided across senior and youth national teams in Europe as well as two African national teams.

For those who haven't been called up, the first international break of this season will allow them to work closely with Russell Martin and further up to speed with his tactics.

Here's a full rundown of who has been called up and who they will play against...

Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland have the largest contingent of senior international call-ups in the Saints squad.

Gavin Bazunu, Will Smallbone and Ryan Manning have all been selected by manager Stephen Kenny ahead of two difficult fixtures.

The Boys in Green travel to Group B table-toppers France for a European Championship qualifier on Thursday, 7 September before hosting the Netherlands at the Aviva Stadium three days later.

Full-back Manning will be hoping to earn his first Irish cap in over a year having been called back into the squad.

The 27 year old, who has won six caps to date, last featured for his country in a 1-0 win over Lithuania in March 2022.

Scotland

Both Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong have been called up to Scotland's squad by manager Steve Clarke.

There was however no place for Newcastle United loanee Ryan Fraser in Clarke's squad.

Scotland currently sit top in Group A, ahead of Spain and Norway, having won all four of their Euro qualifiers so far.

They'll look to continue their 100 per cent start to qualification with a win in Cyprus, before testing themselves in a friendly against England on Tuesday, September 12.

England

While no players were called up to England's senior squad, Southampton have seven players selected across the Young Lions squads.

Deadline day addition Taylor Harwood-Bellis is back with the under-21s having captained them to European glory this summer - and will now be joined by Sam Edozie.

The reigning European Champions take on Luxembourg in their first fixture of the new qualification campaign.

Kami Doyle has been selected for the under-19 squad alongside Dom Ballard, at Reading on loan, as they prepare for their European Championship qualifiers in October.

Simon Rusk's side will travel to Spain to face Germany and Switzerland in international friendly matches.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Jayden Meghoma and Tyler Dibling have also been called up to the under-18 side.

Meghoma and Dibling make the step up having featured for England at the under-17 European Championships in Hungary this summer.

The trio will look to earn their first caps at under-18 level when Ryan Garry's side compete in the Limoges International Tournament against France, Japan and Portugal.

Northern Ireland

Summer signing Shea Charles has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad ahead of their Euro qualifiers against Slovenia and Kazakhstan.

Daily Echo: Shea Charles is a highly-rated full Northern Ireland international

The 19 year old has won eight caps for Northern Ireland to date since making his debut last year.

Northern Ireland are currently well off the pace in Group H, sitting in fifth place, six points behind leaders Finland and Kazakhstan.

They have only beaten minnows San Marino in their opening four games

France

Forward Sekou Mara has been selected for France's under-21 side and could earn his first cap at that level since 2021.

Mara will be coached by new under-21 manager Thierry Henry and will play alongside the likes of Bradley Barcola and Malo Gusto.

Henry's side are scheduled to play a friendly against Denmark before getting their Under-21 European Championship qualification campaign underway against Slovenia.

Nigeria

Despite not starting a single game so far this season, Joe Aribo has been called up by Nigeria.

Paul Onuachu, who is also yet to make a start under Martin, will not be joining him as he has been left out in favour of potential debutants Gift Orban and Victor Boniface.

The Super Eagles have only one fixture during the international break, taking on São Tomé and Príncipe.

Mail

Moussa Djenepo has been called up by Mali for their AFCON qualifier against South Sudan and friendly against the Ivory Coast.

With several transfer windows still open globally, the winger could still depart in search of regular first-team football

Elsewhere in African football, Kameldeen Sulemana hasn’t been selected in Chris Houghton’s Ghana squad.

The 21 year old has only just returned to Saints training and could use the international break as a chance to build up match fitness.

Not selected

Alex McCarthy, Joe Lumley, James Bree, Kyle Walker-Peters, Jack Stephens, Mason Holgate, Juan Larios, Flynn Downes, Charly Alcaraz, Kameldeen Sulemana, Adam Armstrong, Ryan Fraser, Ross Stewart and Paul Onuachu.
