CHELSEA fear summer signing and former Saints star Romeo Lavia will be out for an extended period of time due to injury.
The Belgian international, who completed a move worth around £58million from St Mary’s to Stamford Bridge, was reportedly injured in training on Thursday.
The concern was initially described as a “muscle tear” at the ankle and Evening Standard now report that the 19 year old was assessed on Friday.
Lavia, who looked set for a transfer to Liverpool before, as the Daily Echo reported first, Chelsea swooped in and gazumped the Anfield outfit with a bigger offer, has not played a minute for Blues yet.
Former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino was looking forward to introducing Lavia after the international break but could now be forced to wait weeks or months longer.
Lavia also missed an extended period of action last season, picking up an injury after scoring versus Chelsea at St Mary’s in August and only returning fully after the World Cup.
