SAINTS players will now travel back to Staplewood for the return of club football after this month's international break has drawn to a close.

In total, 17 Southampton players from the senior and youth sides featured for their country during the September international window.

Here's a rundown of what each player contributed to their national side this month...

England

While Southampton didn't have any senior internationals in the England set up this month, they did have a number of players representing the Young Lions.

Deadline day loan signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis captained England's Under-21 side as they got their European Championship qualification campaign underway with a 3-0 win in Luxembourg.

Sam Edozie was also a part of the squad for that win but remained as an unused substitute.

Also captaining England was loaned out striker Dom Ballard, who wore the armband for England's Under-19s.

He skippered Simon Rusk's side as they lost 1-0 to Germany before bouncing back with a 4-2 win over Switzerland, a game in which Ballard got on the scoresheet.

Both friendly fixtures were followed by a penalty shoot-out, which England lost on both occasions.

Also involved with the Under-19s was Kami Doyle, who started against Germany before coming on and scoring in the shoot-out against Switzerland.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Tyler Dibling and Jayden Meghoma were involved in England's Under-18s as they lost all three games against France, Portugal and Japan in the Limoges International Tournament.

Republic of Ireland

Gavin Bazunu's wait for a first clean sheet of the 2023-24 season will rumble on after Ireland lost both of their European Championship qualifiers against France and the Netherlands.

The 21 year old made three saves as his nation lost 2-0 against France at the Parc des Princes.

He repeated that save total in their 2-1 home defeat against the Netherlands, however, Bazunu did concede the penalty, which allowed Cody Gakpo to equalise on 19 minutes, when he tripped Denzel Dumfries in the area.

Daily Echo:

Ryan Manning and Will Smallbone were also involved in that loss against Ronald Koeman's side. Manning's substitute appearance on 64 minutes, nine minutes before the introduction of Smallbone, marked his first Irish cap in over a year.

Ireland now sit fourth in Group B on just three points after five games.

Scotland

Che Adams helped Scotland maintain their 100 per cent start to Euro 2024 qualification with a 3-0 win in Cyprus.

Steve Clarke's side have won all five of their Group A games, which has put them within touching distance of the tournament in Germany.

Having left the field on 67 minutes in that three-goal win on Friday night, all fears of an injury were wiped away when Adams started against England on Tuesday night - earning his 25th Scotland cap in the process.

Stuart Armstrong was also involved against Cyprus, coming on as a substitute on 84 minutes, before once again coming on from the bench against the Three Lions.

Others

Shea Charles earned his ninth and tenth Northern Irish caps this month but will return to Southampton without a win over the international break.

He played every minute for Michael O'Neill's side as they lost 4-2 in Slovenia before a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Kazakhstan.

Daily Echo:

Despite Northern Ireland falling to a fifth straight loss, Charles stood out in Astana, making nine recoveries, completing the most dribbles (2) and creating the most chances (4).

Joe Aribo played 26 minutes as Nigeria rounded out their AFCON qualification group with a 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe.

Jan Bednarek helped Poland keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands, before being forced off early in their next game against Albania.

The defender was replaced on 34 minutes in their 2-0 loss. An update on his fitness is expected this week.

Sekou Mara got off the mark for France Under-21 and helped them to a 4-0 away win over Slovenia in Euro qualifying.

The young forward was called back to France's Under-21 side for the first time in two years by new head coach Thierry Henry.

Also representing his country's youth team was Joe Andrews. The Under-21 midfielder made the step up to Wales' Under-19 side, who won and lost 1-0 in a doubleheader against Finland.
