RUSSELL Martin admits he hasn't fully reviewed Kamaldeen Sulemana's red card but hopes Saints have grounds to appeal.

The Ghanaian international was shown a straight red card for a foul on James Justin during injury time of Southampton's 4-1 defeat against Leicester City.

Kamaldeen, who was making his first appearance of the season, was visibly shocked when given his marching orders by referee Bobby Madley.

Speaking after his side's defeat, Martin said: "I've not seen it back, but it didn't feel like a red card. James Justin said that it wasn't a red card, but his reaction to the foul gave him it.

"The game was over anyway at that point. I will have a proper look at it and we will have a chance to appeal it.

"Kamaldeen has not gone in with any malice or intent to hurt the boy. Hopefully, we will have a good case to appeal that."

Having been introduced at halftime for Sam Edozie, Kamaldeen caused the Leicester defence problems with his pace, twice forcing a corner out of Justin.

"He showed some real brilliant moments. He made the mistake for the fourth goal, but it is what it is," Martin continued.

"He will get better, he is still a bit rusty. He has shown some brilliant moments in training. 

"He gave us so many moments at the start of the second half when we were really on top. He started really well and put a bit of fear into them, which made them drop a little bit.

"That gave the other players space. Even when he wasn't on the ball, he enabled other people to get on the ball.

"It was good for him to build on it, but I hope he isn't suspended now for a couple of games."
