THIRTEEN Saints players will now return to Staplewood having represented their countries during the October international window.

Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong helped Scotland secure their place in next summer's European Championships, while Shea Charles received his first red card in senior football.

Here's a full rundown of how Southampton's internationals got on over the October break...

Scotland

Saints duo Adams and Armstrong were both a part of the Scotland squad which secured their place at the 2024 European Championships after Group A rivals Spain beat Norway 1-0.

Both Spain and Scotland sit on 15 points after six games, five points ahead of third-place Norway, who have played an additional game.

Scotland's qualification was confirmed even though they had fallen to a 2-0 away defeat against Spain on Thursday evening.

With their qualification success still fresh in their minds, Scotland took on World Cup runners-up France in a friendly in Lille, losing 4-1, with Adams withdrawn on 65 minutes and Armstrong introduced on 76.

England

Saints defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis was forced to pull out of the England Under-21 squad having picked up an injury.

A statement from the club confirmed that Harwood-Bellis had returned to Staplewood ahead of further assessment.

"Harwood-Bellis will return to Staplewood Campus with an injury despite being called up to England's Under-21s.

"The 21-year-old was due to face Serbia and Ukraine in EURO 2025 qualifiers with Lee Carsley's side.

"Harwood-Bellis has now returned to the club where he will be further assessed. An update will be provided in due course."

The international break was much kinder to Sam Amo-Ameyaw, who notched his first goal in England colours, which sealed a 1-0 win over Morroco for the Under-18 side.

Jayden Meghoma also featured in that side, while the duo were both used as substitutes three days prior in a 1-1 draw with Germany.

Loaned-out forward Dom Ballard continued to lead the line for England's Under-19s as they got their European Championship qualification campaign underway with two draws.

England were held to a 0-0 draw in a dominating performance against Montenegro in their group opener - with Ballard denied a winner on two occasions.

The Young Lions were unable to bounce back in their next game as they were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Wales - however, it was Ballard's cross which set up Romain Esse's equaliser.

Academy forward Jay Robinson scored for England Under-17s in their doubleheader against Norway.

Republic of Ireland

Saints duo Gavin Bazunu and Will Smallbone started for Ireland as they fell to a fifth defeat in Euro qualifying.

Goals from Georgios Giakoumakis and Giorgos Masouras saw Greece secure a 2-0 win. Things improved for Stephen Kenny's side next time out though, as they bounced back with a 4-0 victory over Gibraltar.

Ryan Manning started at left-back with Bazunu keeping his place between the sticks. In doing so Bazunu became the youngest goalkeeper to 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland at just 21 years old.

Argentina

Fan favourite Charly Alcaraz was called up to the senior Argentina for the first time and trained alongside Lionel Messi this week.

However, he will have to wait a little longer to make his debut for the World Cup winners having failed to make the bench for both of their World Cup qualifiers.

He did however make his debut for Argentina's Under-23s in a goalless draw against Venezuela, while senior management watched on.

Northern Ireland

Deployed as a defensive midfielder against San Marino, Charles completed the most dribbles (5) and won the most duels (11) of any player on the field.

Daily Echo:

The 3-0 win was Northern Ireland's second victory of the qualifying campaign, having beaten San Mario in the reverse fixture.

Having produced a player of the match-worthy performance against San Marino, Charles was shown a red card for a second bookable offence in Northern Ireland's 1-0 loss against Slovenia.

Nigeria

Joe Aribo started for Nigeria in their 3-2 friendly victory over Mozambique before playing the final 12 minutes of their friendly against Saudi Arabia. The match, which took place in Portugal, ended in a 2-2 draw.
