DEFENDER Kyle Walker-Peters has been named in the EFL Championship team of the week following Southampton's 2-1 win over Hull City.

The full back set up Saints' opening goal, bursting to the byline before cutting the ball back for Will Smallbone to score his first away goal for the club.

A quick throw-in from the 26 year old almost led to Stuart Armstrong scoring for the third straight game from Adam Armstrong's cross.

Walker-Peters also played a key role in preventing the Tigers from adding a second goal early in the second half when he reacted quickest to prevent Jaden Philogene from a certain goal.

The two-time England international has been a crucial player as Saints have mounted a four-game unbeaten run after losing four straight games.

He is the only outfield player to play every minute under Russell Martin this season and finished Saturday's win at the MKM Stadium with 66 touches, five passes into the final third and two out of three dribbles completed.

Walker-Peters currently tops the Championship for dribble success rate having completed 78.75 per cent of his 5.88 take-ons per 90 minutes.

“I love it. It’s something that I do anyway, regardless of the system," Walker-Peters noted when speaking with the Daily Echo earlier this month.

"I think now we are a team that dominates the ball a lot more so I have more opportunities to do that."
