SAINTS midfielder Will Smallbone has been ruled out of Ireland's game against the Netherlands through injury.
The 23 year old was withdrawn by Southampton in the 55th minute having opened the scoring in their 2-1 win over West Brom at St Mary's last weekend.
Smallbone reportedly travelled to Dublin for a further scan before being ruled out for their final Euro qualifier on Saturday against the Netherlands.
Ireland boss Stephen Kenny revealed earlier in the week that Smallbone was one of many doubts for the trip to Amsterdam.
He said: “Chiedozie is finding it difficult and we will have to wait and see. Will Smallbone as well. He actually has two injuries.
“He has a foot injury and took a heavy challenge on his thigh that forced him off at the weekend for Southampton.
“We won't lose them all, but we might not have them all, that's the way I see it. We will know more over the next couple of days.
“We're just monitoring their situations at the moment and not all of them are straightforward.”
The severity of Smallbone's injury hasn't been disclosed by Ireland. He has already spent some time on the sidelines this season, missing Saints fixtures against Plymouth and QPR with a knock.
