SAINTS boss Russell Martin admitted he has not spoken to Sekou Mara about his future despite reports suggesting the striker is open to a loan move away.
French publication Foot Mercato have reported the 21 year old could favour a temporary move away from St Mary's to better his selection chances for this summer's Olympic games.
Their report notes that French Ligue 1 sides Lille and Marseille, as well as several Bundesliga clubs are keeping tabs on the Southampton forward.
Asked by the Daily Echo how much legitimacy there is to the rumours, Martin insisted he has not spoken to Mara about the situation.
He said: "I think every player wants to play more and he has probably been frustrated that he hasn't played much.
"We are playing a shape at the moment which may help him get more opportunity - the same with Ross (Stewart) being injured.
"We haven't had that conversation. Sekou knows how I feel about him - really clear. He's really talented and has huge potential.
"But there are things he needs to work on to realise that potential. I see it a lot, he has a huge amount of talent for a young man.
"I enjoy working with him. Every player is different, we focus on what he needs and try to give him that all the time."
Mara has only started two games for Saints this season with his other eight appearances coming from the bench.
The France Under-21 international is still searching for his first goal of the season having managed two last campaign.
"He had an opportunity against Preston and he was so frustrated - as was I - that he didn't take that chance," Martin continued.
"When he came on (against Cardiff) on Saturday he was brilliant. If we can get that Sekou out all the time he can have a huge part to play for us this season.
"We will assess things and the next three or four weeks will determine how they feel about being here or if they want to go and play more minutes.
"He seems happy and he is here. He has amazing hair, he's powerful and really athletic. He has a lot going for him and we like him."
