SUPER Sub Rhys Healy’s late equaliser dashed Saints chances of securing a win at Watford and ensured the match finished 1-1.

Che Adams had put the away side ahead with his fourth of the season before Healy fired in from distance to level in injury time.

It was a disappointing end to the game for Gavin Bazunu who had been Southampton’s best performer, but he will be disappointed to concede the leveller.

Here’s how we rated every Southampton performance at Vicarage Road…

Gavin Bazunu - 7.

One of his best performances, until the last minute. Confident command of his box including a forceful but fair early slide tackle on Sema. Excellent save to deny Sema one-on-one. Another top save after the break gave Saints the platform to lead but he should have saved Healey's equaliser.

Kyle Walker-Peters - 6.

Struggled to penetrate the Watford box, albeit doing so on one occasion with a ball into Adams. Defence of the box improved in the second half.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis - 6.

Got Watford fans off their seats with a risky early header back to Bazunu. Stepped up his performance after the break to match Bednarek's defence of the box but should have won the header for the late equaliser.

Jan Bednarek - 8.

Excellent first half with some last-ditch defending in the box to keep the scores level. Really impressive performance from the Pole and a deserved third consecutive clean sheet.

Ryan Manning - 6.

Still a bit to be desired defensively in terms of getting back quick enough and defending the box from crosses, but clear what he offers with his passing range.

Shea Charles - 6.

Falling back into the Flynn Downes role, Charles looked good in possession but Saints lost the midfield battle in the first half and were under pressure. Tired towards end as the engine of Downes was missed.

Joe Aribo - 7.

Did well on his first start since September. Exhibited good touch with a dangerous run towards the end of the first half to win Saints a first corner, doing something similar after the break too. Interesting to see if he retains his place on Wednesday.

Stuart Armstrong - 6.

Disciplined in the defensive side of his role. Involved in the build-up to the goal. Booked for excellent housery and timewasting as he was substituted in the closing stages.

Charly Alcaraz - 5.

Interesting role, dropping in and out of the front three, also getting in a confrontation with Asprilla. Wasteful in possession during the first 45 minutes and subbed off at half-time.

Che Adams - 7.

Needs to get across his man in the box to make space when the ball comes in, rather than hanging behind his marker. Good finish for the opening goal. Not too much else to shout about.

Adam Armstrong - 7.

Had Southampton's first shot but limited impact before the break, touching the ball just 21 times. Great headed set-up for Adams to score the opener.

Substitutes

Ryan Fraser - 7.

Almost an immediate impact with his cross leading to Southampton's opener. Had another chance well saved. Was a good substitute by Martin.

Sekou Mara - 6.

Introduced as Martin’s second substitute, Mara was used to freshen up the Saints attack. He only had four touches in 18 minutes and was largely ineffective.

James Bree - N/A.

Came on with three minutes regulation time to go to add more defensive solidity. Two tidy touches but ultimately little impact.

Will Smallbone - N/A.

Got on the ball more than Bree but limited impact in 10 minutes.
