SAINTS are reportedly looking into making a January loan offer for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell.

England youth international Cresswell, 21, has not featured for the Elland Road side since the start of October, making just one Championship start this season.

The centre back spent last season on loan at Millwall, where he narrowly missed out on qualifying for the playoffs as the Lions fell away on the final day.

The Sun report that Cresswell will likely be available for loan next month, with Russell Martin's Saints looking into a move.

They detail fellow Championship side Middlesbrough are also eyeing a move for the youngster, who scored two goals from defence on his Millwall debut last year.

Saints are chasing Leeds United in competition for automatic promotion, with Leicester City and Ipswich Town currently setting the pace as the top two.

It seems unlikely Leeds would be willing to strengthen a direct rival, while Saints do not need another player in Cresswell's position.

They already have Jan Bednarek and Taylor Harwood-Bellis keeping captain Jack Stephens out of the starting team, with loanee Mason Holgate also an option.

Summer signing Shea Charles can also deputise at centre back, while Saints are more likely to look to bolster their midfield and attacking options.
