PLYMOUTH interim boss Neil Dewsnip was frustrated after Bali Mumba's goal was ruled out in their 2-1 defeat to Saints on Friday evening.

Southampton took the lead through Charly Alcaraz moments after the goal was flagged offside - flipping the game on its head.

Replays of the offside decision indicated that Mumba had been onside and that the goal should have stood.

Dewsnip, who is in interim charge of Plymouth following Steven Schumacher's departure to Stoke, strongly felt his side should not have been denied the opening goal.

Asked about the decision, he said: “I’m devastated for the players first and foremost. I’m disappointed with the decision.

"I’m really disappointed that we had a decision at Coventry City where the ball was out of play.

“We had a decision at Ipswich that is a sending-off and a penalty kick. We don’t seem to get the rub of the green. That’s hard to take. I'm sure if I rang him (Schumacher), he would join in.

“What’s interesting is, in this day and age with the VAR and the lines on the pitch, there was a line across the pitch called the six-yard box which indicated quite clearly that our player is onside.”

When asked if he had spoken to the officials about the decision, Dewsnip replied. “No. That just teases us. We have got a job to do and get ready for Watford.

“The really annoying bit is Southampton go down the other end and score. People make mistakes, but the next bit is really disappointing.

“Fair play to Southampton, they take a quick free-kick which is allowed. But the referee, in the context of the game, can clearly see that three of our players are celebrating the goal.

“Wouldn’t you have thought, under the circumstances, let them get goalside and go from there? That’s the bit that is annoying.”
