SAINTS were held to a 1-1 draw at Norwich City's Carrow Road but remain unbeaten in 18 Championship matches.
It means the St Mary's side can equal the club's all-time record when they welcome Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
Adam Armstrong scored Southampton's only goal of the match but American international Josh Sargent levelled the scores.
Here is how we rated the Saints players involved...
Gavin Bazunu - 6.
Not bad but not perfect. Bazunu was not tested until the second half. Beaten low across him for the Norwich equaliser but made a great save to keep it at 1-1 after.
Jack Stephens - 5.
Did not look entirely comfortable playing at right-back - problems occurred with balls bouncing in his area and the speed of the Norwich counter. Hit the crossbar with a shot from inside the area just before half-time. Moved to centre-back and did better.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis - 7.
Always looking to play forward but tends to pick the right time to do so. Strong in the tackle and was in the right place to cover when he was the only man left back but was eventually well beaten by a passage of passing play for Norwich's leveller.
Jan Bednarek - 7.
Looked dangerous attacking set-pieces and had one penalty shout go down. Did nothing wrong but was substituted at half-time due to illness. Will be fine to face Sheffield Wednesday next week.
Ryan Manning - 7.
A bright spark going forward. Good, creative corner deliveries and was often the key to nearly unlocking Norwich in the first half. Sometimes his endeavour leaves Saints open to counter, particularly against a team like today.
Flynn Downes - 7.
Steady. One or two early mix-ups as he returned to the side after illness but looked to set the tempo. Was not as involved as usual and only made 55 of 60 passes, but he did win all four of his tackles.
Joe Aribo - 7.
Will be missed when he goes to AFCON. Headed wide with a decent chance after the break. Tidy in possession and had some successful dribbles. Won 75 per cent of his total duels.
Stuart Armstrong - 6.
Ended the match with no notes on Armstrong and he was not as involved as usual but it is hard to rank him below some of his teammates. He was also the most fouled player in the game as he looked to weave through the Norwich side.
Kyle Walker-Peters - 8.
Playing again at right-wing in the first half but was not able to get through a tough defence, before being moved back to facilitate the introduction of Adams. From there, he drove in to set up Armstrong for the opener with a dangerous low cross.
Sam Edozie - 7.
Looked lively and tried to beat his man but was forced off after just 27 minutes, in what could have been a red card challenge for Norwich's Stacey. No conclusive update on his injury.
Adam Armstrong - 8.
His first quality contribution was a clever flick to set up Stephens for a clear chance in the box. Jonny on the spot to finish a tap-in and open the scoring in the final 20 minutes. Did miss a couple chances in added time but was in a good position for both.
Substitutes
Ryan Fraser - 7.
Came on in the first half hour and did not have the impact he does when coming on late. Put in one good cross for Armstrong and had the highest expected assists of any player.
Che Adams - 5.
Bought on at half-time with Martin reshuffling the pack due to a Bednarek illness. Tried to catch Gunn off his line twice unsuccessfully with a better pass to Fraser on.
Shea Charles - 7.
Helped steady the ship after Norwich scored by blocking a cross that would have fell to Norwich substitute Idah. Popped up in the box to attack a cross but was unsuccessful. Only touched the ball eight times.
Will Smallbone - 6.
Played just over 10 minutes including time added on and was tidy but did not make a huge impact. Difficult to rate.
Charly Alcaraz - 7.
Came on with only seven added minutes to play and had six touches. Made an immediate impact playing in Fraser for a cross to Armstrong and then set Armstrong up for a shooting chance in the area.
