SAINTS ace Ryan Fraser scored twice to help his side turn on the style as they swept Walsall aside in the FA Cup fourth round.
Manager Russell Martin made nine changes to his team and the first-half performance suffered as a result, despite leading 1-0 at the break.
Fraser added to his first-half opener after Sekou Mara got a goal of his own and Che Adams completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.
Here is how we rated Southampton's players...
Joe Lumley - 7.
Making his first appearance for the club since signing in the summer. Displayed good footwork early on and did not look out of place in Martin's system. Shot-stopping not tested with any vigour but had no issues with anything that came his way.
Mason Holgate - 7.
Started the game in right back and moved centrally after substitutions. Caught playing out the back and gifted a golden opportunity after the break. Overall, helped limit Walsall to very few chances.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis - 9.
Joke of a ball over the top to Fraser for the opener as we so often see. Composed at the back and helped Saints limit Walsall, at fault personally for none of their chances. Rested after 66 minutes.
Jack Stephens - 7.
Not as stand out as his centre back partner and will likely lose his spot to the fit again Jan Bednarek next week. Nearly gifted Walsall an equaliser after the break and had a few shaky moments. Helped limit Walsall's chances.
Jayden Meghoma - 7.
Played a full 90 minutes and looked good down the left. Exhibited a couple of dangerous crosses and displayed real bravery to turn a man in his own box and promptly start a counter of his own. Enjoyed playing off Fraser.
Shea Charles - 8.
Did well at the base of the midfield to offer both control and disruption when moments required it. Completed the full 90 minutes and was important to the clean sheet.
Will Smallbone - 7.
Lacked his shooting boots but popped up in a few different good areas close to goal, which is to be credited.
Charly Alcaraz - 9.
Couple of moments where what he tried came off imperfectly but he was also snubbed by teammates after finding some good space. Found Fraser to create the second goal and assist the third. Then assisted Adams for the fourth.
Sam Amo-Ameyaw - 7.
Started fast trying to beat his man and arrive in the area, nearly forging one chance at the back post. Booked for stopping a counter. Quietened down over the 83 minutes he played and will be disappointed not to have got himself a real chance to score but plenty more to come from him.
Ryan Fraser - 9.
A composed touch and finish on his run behind to give Saints the early lead. Selfless and quality pass into the box for Mara to get the second. Finished his own second goal tidily across the goalkeeper for his sixth of the season.
Sekou Mara - 7.
Did not have long to react but missed an open goal from close range when the chance presented itself and shot poorly when he should have played Alcaraz in straight after. Made up for it with a tidy turn and finish to score his second goal of the season.
Substitutes
Che Adams - 8.
His goal was the only telling contribution he made but held off his man with good strength and finished well. Will return to the starting XI against Sheffield Wednesday.
Tyler Dibling - 7.
Making first senior appearance at St Mary's, he looked to be tricky in the area. Got some fans off their seats with one low shot into the netting from a good angle. More to come from him.
Cam Bragg - 7.
Coming on for his Saints and senior debut with seven minutes to play, he immediately grasped the tempo of the game. Looked good in possession and created one chance. Well done.
