HULL City have reportedly moved ahead of Saints in the race to sign Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho on loan this month.

The 21 year old has reportedly been the subject of interest from several Championship clubs this month, with Leicester City also included.

Liverpool recalled Carvalho early from his loan at RB Leipzig earlier this month due to his lack of game time in the Bundesliga.

According to Sky Sports, Liam Rosenoir’s side are understood to have made a strong move to sign the former Fulham man and give him a regular starting place.

They note that Carvalho is believed to be enthusiastic about helping Hull cement a play-off place and push for promotion to the Premier League.

Sky Sports' report states that Southampton are "less able to assure him a regular starting spot."

Russell Martin currently has Joe Aribo, Charly Alcaraz and Stuart Armstrong who can play in the attack-minded midfield role.

Also capable of playing on the wing, Carvalho would also have to compete with the in-form Ryan Fraser and the soon-returning Kamaldeen Sulemana and Sam Edozie.

Saints have a number of attacking options on their list with a desire to bring in forward reinforcements using the loan market in order to satisfy financial fair play demands.

Hull are reportedly believed to be closing in on signing Burnley's Manuel Benson, who the Daily Echo understands is one of the options the club have looked at.
