FORMER Saints boss Harry Redknapp dubbed Ryan Fraser a throwback player after his starring role against Walsall in the FA Cup.
Fraser scored twice and registered an assist in a man of the match performance as Southampton thrashed the League Two side 4-0 at St Mary's.
The Scottish international's performance drew praise from manager Russell Martin, who described him as a "good example for the young boys."
Speaking to Sports Betting Site BetVictor for his FA Cup team of the week, Redknapp said: "Ryan Fraser has to make my side.
"He caused Walsall so many problems and scored two and created another as Southampton cruised to the win.
"He took his two goals very well. He was a lad I saw loads of at Bournemouth and always liked him, he’s very quick and direct, a bit of a throwback player."
Redknapp spent 12 months as Saints manager in between spells at fierce rivals Portsmouth. The 76 year old oversaw Southampton's relegation in 2004-05.
Southampton have drawn Watford away in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The round of fixtures is set to take place on the weekend of Saturday, January 27.
