SAINTS broke a 103-year-old club record by going 20 league games unbeaten with a 3-1 success at Swansea City.

Southampton have now eclipsed their best unbeaten run in all competitions since joining the Football League in 1920, having gone 20 games without defeat the following year.

A sixth win in seven league games moves Southampton into second place, above Ipswich on goal difference before they meet Championship leaders Leicester on Monday.

Russell Martin enjoyed his Swansea return despite being left frustrated with the final 20 minutes of the match. Here are our player ratings...

Gavin Bazunu - 8.

Took out Jamal Lowe and himself in the process of Swansea's opening goal. However, produced several top saves to keep the hosts at bay during the final 15 minutes. Top performance from the goalkeeper to keep Saints comfortable.

Kyle Walker-Peters - 7.

Had the beating of his man, had the most successful dribbles and was the most fouled player. However, none of his crosses met their destination. Ended up being a quieter game for one of the league's best players after a fast start.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis - 8.

Booked for stopping a counter very early on. Passage of play for the second goal was started by another cross-field pass. Could potentially have been more aggressive for the Swansea goal but was looking to cover the goal. Came off after 59 minutes as a result of the yellow.

Jan Bednarek - 8.

Consistent throughout the match with one really critical moment of defending during the closing stages, tackling and blocking while on the floor. Tried to immediately get up from a head injury and had to be forced into a medical assessment - in terms of character, cannot beat it.

Ryan Manning - 7.

Involved in the passage of play for Southampton's opening goal. The cross for the Swansea goal came from his side but the attacker should have been ruled offside.

Flynn Downes - 9.

Scored from range on his birthday and return to Swansea City - his only shot of the game. Good success rate in duels (6/7) and pass completion (94 per cent).

Will Smallbone - 8.

Some good touches in the midfield while Saints were on top in the first half. Had an easy finish but made a good run for the second goal and his fourth of the season. Also won the most tackles (3) of any player in the game.

Stuart Armstrong - 9.

Good run and shot for the opener - pulled across to Smallbone for the second. Was offside for the second goal but not picked up. Created a further two good chances for his team. Tailed off a little bit in the second half, but this only reflected team performance.

Adam Armstrong - 7.

A lot of Southampton's early play came down the left but he set up namesake Armstrong with a nice lofted ball in from the right but the Scot's touch let him down. One of his quieter games overall, although he completed 90 minutes.

Ryan Fraser - 8.

Made continuous runs down the left and proved an absolute menace throughout. Did 90 minutes again despite being a potential doubt for the game and continues to be reliable for his loan side.

Che Adams - 8.

Set up Armstrong with a great first-time pass and then in the right place for the finish to open the scoring. Creative spark, making four chances for his team - the joint most in the game. Also managed three shots. Very good.

Substitutes

Jack Stephens - 5.

Came on with over half an hour to give booked Harwood-Bellis rest. Twice gifted Swansea chances in dangerous positions but went unpunished. Martin accepted his changes did not have as good an impact as usual.

Joe Rothwell - 6.

Came on for his debut after signing earlier this week with 25 minutes left. Gave the ball away a few times.

Sekou Mara - 6.

Only had seven touches in over 20 minutes, including added time. Headed away a corner under pressure and successfully completed a dribble with two of those.

Shea Charles - N/A.

Came on for final few minutes to relieve pressure and was booked for a foul on the edge of the area.
