AFC Bournemouth attacker David Brooks admitted he wants more first-team football amid interest from Saints and other Championship clubs.

The Daily Echo understand that Brooks is on Southampton's list of potential attacking additions during the January transfer window.

Brooks scored once and provided two assists in the first half of Bournemouth’s 5-0 thrashing of Swansea City.

Saints goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton was in attendance at the Vitality Stadium and will have been impressed by the Welsh international’s performance.

The 26 year old has only started two Premier League games for the Cherries so far this season.

In total, Brooks has played just 549 minutes across all competitions, with 267 of those minutes coming in cup competitions.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent after his starring role in Bournemouth's dominant FA Cup win, Brooks revealed his desire for more regular game time.

He said: "I've not had loads of minutes and sometimes it is difficult to go from minute one.

"I'm trying to show the gaffer why I should be playing. I want first-team football.

"Without being disrespectful, I've had two years out so I want to play, regardless of the circumstances.

"I'm looking to do that. I want first-team football, especially for my own career. Wales have some big qualifiers coming up so I am looking to play as many minutes as possible.

"Hopefully tonight has put me in the gaffer's mind. The squad is very good here and they've had a good few months.

"I just want to play first-team football. I'd love to continue my football here, but I think it's up to everyone to decide what the best situation is."

He continued: "If he thinks there isn't guaranteed first-team football for me here then I will explore opportunities elsewhere.

"It is up to the gaffer and what he wants. I can try to work around that."

When asked if he would sanction a Brooks departure this month, Andoni Iraola suggested the Cherries would need to sign a replacement.

"The first part is what the player wants and then a lot of things have to happen.

"The club has to find a replacement, the financial numbers have to work for everyone. We'll see what happens. The market is open for one more week."
