DEFENDER Jan Bednarek insisted "it is not enough" after Saints climbed to second in the Championship with a 2-0 win at Rotherham.
The Polish international scored the opening goal at the New York Stadium which set Southampton on course for their third straight league win.
The win saw Russell Martin's side finally reel in Ipswich to go second after the Tractor Boys dropped points at Preston.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, after what was his 200th club appearance, Bednarek detailed how important is is that Saints keep their run going.
He said: “This could have been a tricky game for us, coming to an opposition who are fighting against relegation on a really bad pitch.
“The professionalism that we showed and the courage we showed to play made it look like an easy game.
“It was a very good performance, we have got three points and kept a clean sheet. We have got to keep going.
“We are second, but that doesn’t matter now. We have to be second at the end of the season. That is our target.
“Making sure that we keep winning is the most important thing for us. The draws that we have had during this run have felt like defeats.
“We need to keep growing and keep this run going to make sure we are in the top two at the end of the season.”
Despite opening the scoring with a header, Bednarek played down his second goal of the season.
Adam Armstrong went on to add a second as the post also denied Ryan Fraser another goal.
”It was just a goal for the team,” he continued. “It was really important that we scored at the beginning of the game.
”That gave us belief. It also showed that we are not only strong at playing with the ball and we can be a danger from set pieces.
”Being in the right position was key today. There was only a few moments of danger, we controlled 99 per cent of the game.
“It was important to keep a clean sheet because we can all remember when we drew 1-1 against them earlier this season.
”Set pieces weren’t our strength at that point in the season, but we have grown a lot.
”We weren’t ruthless in front of goal last time we played them, but that is the difference now.
”We score goals, but we are also aggressive in our half. As a team everyone understands that they have to work hard for each other.”
