SAINTS midfielder Stuart Armstrong said that they are not looking at the table after their 2-0 win over West Brom saw them return to second place.

It was Armstrong's cross to the back post which set up Ryan Fraser to open the scoring on 14 minutes with a trademark crossbody finish.

That came minutes after West Brom manager Carlos Corberán was shown a red card for keeping the ball in play as Southampton looked to counter.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Armstrong said: “It was really important (to bounce back). It is what we wanted tonight against a really top team.

"We were really disappointed with how things went in the week so tonight was all about putting that right and playing the way we wanted to play.

“We had to reset and re-find our values on what brought us that position in the first place.

“Some parts of the game tonight weren’t spectacular but we got the three points and it was a good performance in the end."

Southampton's win has seen them jump ahead of Leeds temporarily before they face Plymouth Argyle in Saturday's early kick-off.

Asked how vital it is to get ahead of Daniel Farke's side, the Scot said: “Really important.

"We try not to look at the table too much, just take it game by game, as boring as that sounds.

“It was huge that we got the three points tonight and everyone is really happy."
