THE Kelvin Davis era began with a bang as Eastleigh ran riot against Oxford City in the National League, writes Matt Gibbs.
The Spitfires made the perfect start in a 5-2 win at the RAW Charging Stadium when Scott Quigley's headed effort was bundled home by Paul McCallum.
Just seven minutes later, Eastleigh doubled their lead with McCallum similarly placing the ball home to his first goal of the evening.
Eastleigh added a third in only the 11th minute when Ludwig Francillette's header from a corner beat Tom Watson in the Oxford goal.
The defender almost grabbed his second of the game soon after but his header came back off the crossbar, with Quigley unable to put the rebound in.
Quigley did find the net just before half-time, though, when he was found by Jake Taylor before he cannoned the ball home.
Taylor scored the Spitfires' fifth goal of the evening as he hammered the ball past Watson from just inside the box at the start of the second half.
Alfie Potter pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 73rd minute with a close-range finish.
The Hoops earned a penalty in the 84th minute, but Josh Parker could not convert from the spot and saw his attempt fly over the bar.
Levi Lumeka scored a second for the hosts in the 94th minute, but it wasn't enough for them as the Spitfires soared to victory.
Eastleigh host Bromley at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday, February 24 (3pm), as Davis takes on his first home match in charge.
