EASTLEIGH boss Kelvin Davis made it two wins from two as his new side beat second-placed Bromley 2-0 at the Silverlake Stadium.
Second-half goals from Scott Quigley and Paul McCallum were enough to see off the National League promotion contenders.
Davis' first home match in charge also saw the Spitfires collect their first clean sheet since October - which marked a perfect start for the former Saints goalkeeper.
Davis stuck with the same side that beat Oxford City 5-2 on Tuesday with January signing Ben Reeves among the starters.
It was Bromley who had the first effort on goal when the ball broke to Bes Topalloj on the edge of the area but his strike was well blocked by Ludwig Francillette.
It had been a quiet start with both sides unable to create any clear-cut opportunities in the opening stages.
Eastleigh, though, looked much improved from recent defeats, and only a good defensive header prevented Quigley from heading in Reeves' cross.
The hosts did have their first chance on the brink of half-time when Jake Taylor's speculative effort was parried out by Smith - with McCallum unable to direct the rebound in.
Bromley started the second half on the front foot and only an excellent save by Joe McDonnell kept them from going in front.
Louis Dennis' pass released Corey Whitely through on goal but his low shot was kept out by the Eastleigh goalkeeper.
McCallum went close to opening the deadlock on 52 minutes but his header was saved by Smith - with Reeves unable to put in the follow-up.
The Spitfires took the lead midway through the second half when McCallum's flick-on found Quigley who took a touch before firing low past Smith in the Bromley goal.
They doubled their advantage 15 minutes later when Nigel Atangana's cross was headed in superbly by McCallum - to put Davis' side in command.
Eastleigh managed to see the game out relatively comfortably to complete a successful first week in charge for Davis.
They are next in action on Tuesday when they host Oldham Athletic in the National League.
