MANAGER Kelvin Davis is hoping Eastleigh can continue to "move forward" after their 2-0 win over Bromley on Saturday.
Goals from Paul McCallum and Scott Quigley saw the Spitfires beat third-place Bromley to ensure Davis retains his 100 per cent winning record in the Eastleigh dugout.
The former Southampton goalkeeper claimed a big win in his first game at the Silverlake Stadium, ending their five-game wait for a win at home.
Reflecting on the result with the Daily Echo, Davis said: “I think it was a strong performance. On the back of our win over Oxford City, to put in two performances of that level is fantastic.
“When you have got the strikers that we have got, you always fancy us to get a goal. Now it’s about making sure we are in the right areas defensively and that the lads have the right ideas to stop the ball coming into the box.
“The players have been absolutely top, every single one of them. I can’t praise them enough. The most pleasing part is that they want to learn. They want to listen. They want to get better.
"We have given them lots to think about and they have taken it all onboard. When you see that come to fruition on the pitch, the players take confidence from that.
“I’d like to think that we can keep going in our way and keep moving forward. Hopefully, we will keep putting in performances like that.
“The reception from the fans was nice. I’ve been here many times as a fan. It was great to be in the dugout and on the other end of it.”
The win saw Eastleigh keep their first clean sheet since a 1-0 victory over Dover Athletic in FA Cup qualifying back in October.
In the 11 games prior to Davis' arrival at the Silverlake, the Spitfires had leaked 30 goals.
Only bottom-of-the-table Oxford City (77) have conceded more goals in the Vanarama National League than Eastleigh (69).
A first clean sheet of 2024 is a step in the right direction for retired goalkeeper Davis' side. He continued: “One of the things we said when we first came in was that clean sheets are for the team.
“They are not just for the goalkeeper or the back four or five. Whatever system you play, the whole team is involved in trying to keep a clean sheet.
“That was a big message again. We saw the lads clearing the ball off the line. We had to dig in at times and get through it. Keeping the ball out of the net is a team mentality.”
“They (Quigley and McCallum) have both been brilliant. At Oxford City, they shared the goals a bit. Again, to get one each today was important for the team.
“Strikers are strikers, if they are scoring goals they run more. Those two gave us a lot of energy, which we needed because we knew what the threat was.
“If we gave Bromley too much time on the ball then it would have been coming into our box. We didn’t want that to happen. I was pleased with their performance."
