SAINTS have confirmed to the Daily Echo that St Mary's Stadium has not suffered fire damage as a result of the industrial estate blaze.
Smoke plumes from the fire could be seen from as far as the Isle of Wight and Winchester on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to an incident in an industrial building adjacent to the Chapel stand of Southampton's stadium.
The Preston North End fixture, due to kick-off at 7:45pm that evening, was postponed on health and safety grounds.
St Mary's Stadium has suffered no fire damage but there is no definitive answer given on the fan zone closest to the fire.
Smoke billowed into and over the stadium for hours and workers are assessing any smoke damage today (Thursday).
As a result of ongoing assessments, the club confirmed it is too early to give an official comment on the status of Saturday's fixture.
Saints are due to host Sunderland on March 9 with kick-off from 3pm. It is currently their final scheduled fixture ahead of the international break.
Russell Martin's side have 11 fixtures left in their Championship campaign, with promotion back to the Premier League the target.
They sit fourth in the division, eight points off the automatic promotion spots with the postponed Preston game in hand.
