DEFENDER Taylor Harwood-Bellis demanded Saints "figure out how to get over the line in games."

Southampton's troubles in the final third continued on Saturday at Blackburn, where they drew 0-0, to extend their three-game winless run.

Russell Martin's side hosts FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry on Tuesday straight after their 2-1 win over Leeds on the weekend.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Harwood-Bellis explained that it is the players' responsibility to right their recent wrongs rather than the coaching staff.

He said: “Footy is all about getting over the line and winning matches. That is something we need to look at in ourselves. That doesn’t come from anyone else.

“It doesn't come from the manager or the staff, we as players have to demand that from ourselves. We are a good group and we will go away to look at how we can make things better.

“The manager gives us everything he can going into the game. I think that shows on the pitch with the way we keep and win the ball.

“As players, we need to get together to figure out how we can get over the line in games. I’m sure that will happen.”

Southampton were 4-0 winners when they faced Blackburn at St Mary's in December, but are no longer showing signs of putting teams to the sword as they did earlier this season.

“You are not going to win every game 4-0, even if the performance suggests you should," Harwood-Bellis continued.

"We can say the performance is good, but if you don’t win the game then it doesn’t matter.

“There is no stopping with this team. We are not ones to stay frustrated with ourselves for too long.

“We will go into the game against Coventry and continue to try playing the right way and hopefully put them to bed.”

Southampton's goalless draw was made more frustrating by Leeds United and Ipswich Town dropping crucial points.

Saints were once again unable to take full advantage and still remain 12 points behind second-place Ipswich, with two games in hand.

“It was frustrating for everyone. I felt we deserved to win the game. I thought we defended the box really well and created chances.

“It’s just that final bit. It wasn’t our day to put the ball in the back of the net. We have never been too focused on other teams, that is the culture that we have.

“When you see teams around you dropping points you obviously want to go into your game and take all three.

“You can also look at it the other way and say it’s one point closer, but we should be taking all three.”
