MANAGER Russell Martin was disappointed that Che Adams did not score a hattrick against Preston, adding: "He looks like he's going to score all the time."
Adams scored twice in 10 minutes before Stuart Armstrong added a third to set Saints on their way to a rampant 3-0 win on Tuesday evening.
The 27 year old had chances to complete his first hattrick since 2019 but was denied by Preston's Freddie Woodman on several occasions before being withdrawn.
"He was just threatening to beat me up out there, actually," Martin joked. "We had a hug and a laugh, but he understands why.
"He just missed a great chance. He controlled the ball so well on the stretch and Freddie made some excellent saves.
"I'm disappointed for him that he didn't get a hattrick. He's been amazing. He's really in flow at the moment, his energy's good.
"He's in a really good place and we need to keep him there, especially with Sekou Mara being suspended for three games.

"Hopefully, that little break towards the end will help him get some more energy for Saturday."

Adams has now scored five in his last five games and is also claiming a goal against Coventry, which has been attributed to Kyle Walker-Peters.
This has been the Scotland international's best patch of form this season and arrives at a crucial juncture in the campaign.
"He understands what's expected of him. I think he's in a really good place. I think he's free.
"He's really excited at the opportunity in front of him to try and help this club get back to the Premier League, which is perfect for him and everyone else.
"I'm really enjoying working with him. He's a great character. I've said this to you so many times. He is a top man.
"We need to keep him in this place for as long as possible because he looks like he's going to score all the time."
