EXPERIENCED boss Neil Warnock has told Russell Martin to take his players "for a Chinese" after a 5-0 humiliation at Leicester City.
Warnock, who has managed more matches (1626) than anyone else in the English game, was in attendance at King Power Stadium.
He has masterminded a record eight promotions and helped Cardiff City to the Premier League as Championship runners-up in 2018.
Martin's Saints were embarrassed against their promotion rivals but Warnock had some advice for the young manager.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Warnock said: "Russell has got enough time now, you don’t want to be interviewed when you lose 5-0.
"The questions the reporter asked him, I might have chinned him if he had been talking to me - although you can’t do that.
"He knows they were terrible but he has got to brush himself down on the journey home and stress something to the players.
"We have had so many supporters travel all that way and spend all that money and we have let them down so much."
He continued: "We have to repay them now by getting to the Premier League. They have had a great season after a bad start.
"The best unbeaten run in history, so he has to forget about all this, take them for a Chinese tomorrow and get it out of the system.
"Never mind training, training is no good, they don’t want extra training - they just need to remind each other how good they have been."
Saints look likely to finish fourth in the Championship and would play away first and home second in the playoff semi-finals next month.
