SAINTS boss Russell Martin admitted he has made "loads of mistakes" while congratulating Ipswich on their promotion to the Premier League.
The Tractor Boys beat Huddersfield 2-0 to become the first team to achieve back-to-back promotion into the top flight since Southampton.
Martin's Saints narrowly lost both games to Kieran McKenna's side this season, however, the boss insisted that is not why they have missed out on automatic promotion.
The retired defender repeated his frustrations about dropping crucial points against the likes of Rotherham and Watford.
He said: "I've made loads of mistakes and there is loads of frustration, but Ipswich deserve it.
"They've been great. Everyone kept saying throughout the season, 'Oh, Ipswich will fall away,' but they haven't.
"Kieran and his group of staff deserve a huge amount of credit. You saw two brilliant teams today that maybe in other seasons would be Champions, but they're not.
"Leeds get 90 points and they've not been promoted. That's a testament to Ipswich and Leicester and how good they've been.
"Ipswich faced us at a good time early on in the season. There was a bit of transition and a lot of players were not quite there," he continued.
"Then we played them at our place and for 60, 70 minutes, one of the best performances we had at their place, we go down to 10 men and get beaten.
"I think every team can look back and have anger at results. We played Rotherham at home when we had 25 shots, they had two and we drew 1-1.
"Watford away, we conceded in the 96th minute, 1-1. Huddersfield away, 1-1. So it's not just the Ipswich games.
"It's my job to be eternally annoyed with those results to learn from them to make sure we are better for whatever comes next."
